It’s hard to believe that Memorial Day is once again upon us. This day is a reminder of how awesome it is to be an American and a time to honor the memory of all the military personnel who died for our country. I know I tend to take this service and our freedom for granted. However, when I see American flags start to flood the community, I’m reminded of how fortunate I am to be part of this great nation.

In addition to its most important purpose, Memorial Day has also come to signify the beginning of summer. This is the day that represents the start of swimming, campfires, warmer temperatures, vacations, barbecues, flower planting, family time, and so much more. After a long winter, all of these activities are little mini-celebrations in their own right. They also often involve food. (Another one of the reasons I love summer.)

So today, to mark Memorial Day and the start of summer, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite red, white, and blue-inspired desserts. There’s nothing that gets me more excited about summertime entertaining than desserts loaded with fresh berries, whipped cream, or red velvet cake. You just can’t go wrong.
