Jam Cocktail | Inspired by Charm

Here in Pennsylvania it’s always exciting when we spot the first robin of spring. It’s such a big deal that it usually makes the front page of the local paper. I guess that distinctive songbird is nature/s way of telling us that winter is almost over.

I’m thrilled to report that I spotted my first robin of the year yesterday on my run. This morning I saw another robin outside my kitchen window. While those robins are a sure sign of spring, I’m also taking them as a sign from the universe that warmer and brighter days are ahead, both physically and mentally. (At this point I’ll take any signs I can get.)

So to celebrate the arrival of spring, I thought a cocktail was in order.

The drink I’ve chosen is a Jam Cocktail. This fresh and bright libation brings together all the flavors of sunny days but requires no fresh fruit. Since I had some fresh berries on hand, I did throw them in as a garnish. However, they aren’t essential to the success of the cocktail.

Anywho, this drink comes together with a clear spirit (I used gin in one recipe and vodka in the other.), lemon juice, and your favorite jam or jelly. A little simple syrup is thrown into the mix for added sweetness.

I’m showing you two variations below to get you inspired. However, you can use any combination of jam and clear spirit that you like. You can also make this a mocktail by replacing the gin or vodka with club soda or lemon-lime soda.

Typically for this cocktail, the jam is shaken with the rest of the ingredients, but I opted to add it as a finishing touch, just slightly stirring it with a straw. I love the unique effect it gives the drink.

Garnished with fresh herbs, this cocktail is announcing spring, much like that robin did on my run yesterday. Okay, time for a drink.
