Now, back to today’s post. It seems that every year I unintentionally do some sort of holiday DIY with printed out Instagrams. In 2012, I created this Instamas Tree. Last year, I put together a large peace sign Instamas wreath. And now, I’m returning with a new take on a wreath.

These are actually some of my favorite holiday projects for a couple reasons. First, I get to scroll through my Instagram account to print new pictures. Doing this gives me a chance to reflect on the things I’ve done, places I’ve gone, and people I’ve met during the past twelve months. Secondly, I think the best holiday decorations are the personal ones. The things that have meaning and tradition, the ones with heart. Don’t get me wrong, I love to pick up new and trendy things, but nothing tops something with a story.

Anyway, let me show you how I put this together.

First, this wreath is on my DIY bulletin board (tutorial here) in my office. This is right off my entry and living room, so a lot of people see this space.

I started with a pre-lit wreath. This one is from the always fabulous Treetopia. While this project would be beautiful done with a more traditional green wreath, I wanted something unexpected so I went for white.

Next, I added a ribbon. The ribbon at the top going over the frame is merely cosmetic to cover the cord for the lights and the wire holding up the wreath. I chose this deep blue color to match my new rug.

Once that was complete, I added my photos. Like I mentioned, all of the photos were from my instagram account. There are plenty of services that will print your IG pictures. However, my favorite is Print Studio. The quality of the pictures is excellent, the paper is thick, and two different sizes are available. (If these photos look familiar, it’s not your imagine. I just ordered my 2014 pictures yesterday, so I’ll be swapping these out for the new ones when they arrive.)

To attach the photos, I used gold binder clips. I like how the gold ties the wreath in with the gold and brass I have throughout the room.

And that’s it, my friends. It’s that simple.

With the pictures hung, I cleaned up my dresser and gussied it up for Christmas (I must confess that I’ve already changed it slightly since shooting these pictures.) Another area of my house that’s ready for the holidays.

I’m showing you a picture of the wreath lit, but I must tell you that it looks much better in person. I haven’t yet mastered the art of photographing twinkle lights. Sorry about that.

All-in-all, I think it turned out pretty cute. I so enjoyed looking at pictures from this past year and can’t wait to point out special memories to my holiday guests.

I love it. I love it soooo much! It’s a winter wreath that can’t die and can stay up for months and look great!

Most photos are hidden away on cards or computers… love how you found a reason to bring them out. Very special!

Michael, this is seriously the cutest idea! I love it! I think it’d also be cute to do with favorite Christmas cards you receive. Another great post for the 12 days of Christmas!

Love the wreath. I have a dresser similar to yours. I’m nervous about painting it though. How do you decide to paint or leave vintage furniture with its wood finish?
