Well friends, we did it! Welcome to the final day of the 12 Days of Christmas.

12DaysCOUNTER12

Even though the 12 Days Series is coming to close, please stop back tomorrow. I’ll be doing a recap with links to all twelve giveaways and letting you know about several link-up parties where my fellow bloggers will be sharing holiday creations.

To end the week, I thought I’d show you two Christmas shelves that weren’t ready when I did my home tour. Also, once you’ve read this post, I want to see your Christmas shelves. Get on Instagram, snap a picture and share it using the hashtag #ChristmasShelfie and tag @InspiredbyCharm. I’ve done enough sharing, so I want to see your home! I’ll be featuring some of my favorites!

Okay, on to my shelves.

First, I finished up my mantel! Yay!

All of the things I ordered finally arrived.

First, the lights. I was hunting for large white opaque light bulbs with a white cord. I could not find any in the major stores. After doing some online searching, I ended up ordering them from 1000Bulbs. However, I bought the wrong size bulbs, so then I had to wait even longer.

Despite all of that, they are here and looking great. I totally achieved the look I was after.

Next, I added a simple red felt ball garland. It’s from WestElm and is the same one that Kevin is wearing. (For anyone who is new to IBC, Kevin is my moose and personal assistant.)

Finally, for a touch more gold, I put up this “Merry & Bright” banner. It’s from this Etsy shop.

I think those finishing touches really tie it all together. Don’t you agree?

A pair of new nutcrackers also made an appearance. I found them at Target. One is a lumberjack, and the other is a skier. They are modern hipster nutcrackers so I was totally obsessed.

I’m still looking into making my fireplace functional. In the meantime I just drilled some holes into birch logs and added tealights. They provide just enough flame and flicker for now.

Here’s this space at night so you can get the full effect of the lights. Magical, right? Isn’t it fun to see how different this space looks at night? I just love it!

With my fireplace complete and the final touches on my tree, I’m happy to report that decorating in my downstairs is finished.

My upstairs, on the other hand, is another story. I am making progress though.

Not that I really need to go full on Christmas upstairs. At this point, a few touches here and there are all I’m going for.

This summer I built some picture ledges in my hallway, so I figured that would be a good place to start adding a little holiday cheer.

To be honest, decorating these ledges causes me so much grief. I spend hours laboring over them, and they are still just not quite right. I love them, but I haven’t yet figured out the best way to style them.

One thing I’m really excited about, however, is this brass deer head I picked up on eBay. (Oh, and I wanted to remind you. I have a bunch of collections and guides on eBay. I’ve located so many hard-to-find things there, it’s crazy. Anyway, if you want to follow along to see what I’m collecting or what I’m sharing, you can do that here.) Okay, now back to the deer head. When I saw him, I knew he’d be the crowning jewel for my ledges.

Other things to talk about in this area. “The Best is Yet to Come” print is from Elise Blaha. She’s a fellow blogger and sells pretty things.

I also failed to take a close-up picture of this, (I’ll do it as soon as the sun comes up), but my mom painted the most beautiful picture for me. I took her on a cruise a month ago, and this painting was her way of thanking me. It’s very special to me. It was inspired by this Instagram I took on the ship.

Other than that, I just used a few knick knacks and one of the things I had included in my DIY Holiday Artwork.

And that’s a wrap on my Christmas Shelfies! What do you think?

Now I promise to get a few things done in my bedroom and give you a little update on that.

And don’t forget. Go snap some pictures of your spaces (your shelves or whatever), post them on Instagram, and share them with the hashtag #ChristmasShelfie and tag @inspiredbycharm. Cool? I can’t wait see to your holiday decor.

Thanks so much for following along these past 12 Days! I sincerely hope you enjoyed yourself and picked up a few ideas along the way.

Merry Everything!

Always love checking in with you and you have such happy holiday house. You have such fun with color and I delight in the journey with you. Now, about the shelves upstairs….they are lovely, but too subdued for you. I think if you get a color pop happening in the matting of the pictures, or their frames, or a stronger color saturation in the pictures themselves, then your trademark style will be achieved. You already have the color in the pillows and in the decorations on the stool, you just need some pop to draw the eye up and make that gold garland sing. Hope you don’t mind me saying. 🙂 Happy holidays and enjoy your beautiful house.

      Marion –

I don’t mind at all! Great suggestion! I actually may have just the thing. Thanks for chiming in. 🙂 And for your sweet comments. I really appreciate that.

I very rarely comment here but read every post that you write. I especially enjoy reading about your home at Christmas, the totes of glass balls the other day had me dying laughing as it felt like my own home. I am not in your neighbourhood so the dibs at my thrift stores stays in tact lol. My style is quite different from yours but I just wanted to say that I love how put together your home always seems. Layers of wonderful items without the feeling of clutter. I have also really enjoyed that even though you are a full time blogger you still have a vibe on your blog that feels unique and personal and not over run with promotion. Merry Christmas. BTW Kevin rocks!

Love this! Those lights on your mantel are exactly what I have been searching for too! Would you mind sharing the exact name or link??

    Thank you!!!

Your living room truly is magical! Love the holiday touches all over the house. Happy Holidays!

  • Vanessa at

Love how festive and bright everything is…I just want to “hang out” at your house!! 🙂 The #shelfie-love that! Maybe a #treeing sometime too; would be super cool to see Christmas trees! Thanks for all the inspiration! BTW-adore your flocked tree!

I jut have to say…You are awesome!

Day or night – your house is truly merry and bright! I always feel better when I get my dose of IBC eye candy. Thank you!

Michael, I discovered your blog yesterday and have been poring over it. Your home, design and photography are beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I especially love what you’ve done with your fireplace. I live in a 100 year-old home with a fireplace that looks to be about the same size as yours. The chimney cleaning company we hired told us that our “fire box” was too small to safely burn a fire in (a real bummer), but I love the birch logs and candles you’ve used as an alternative. Can you please let me know if you did anything to treat or preserve the logs? Also, what kind of drill bit did you use to drill the holes for the candles?
Thanks so much for the lovely ideas!

Beautiful space! The stockings and rug are to die for. Where are they from?

    Beautiful! Absolutely Beautiful!!

i have enjoyed your tour so much , it has been fun to see what you were going to come up with next. I have a question for you; the white trees on your mantel and the moose head where did you find them. I have been looking for the full white or cream trees and can not find them. HELP

    • Michael Wurm, Jr. at

      Colleen –

The trees are from Target – last year. The moose head is from Z Gallerie.

      Hope that helps!
