I can’t tell you how excited I was to turn over the calendar this morning. There is something about the first of April that’s a clear sign that nicer weather is just around the corner. So to celebrate today, I decided a drink was in order! Plus, it’s been a while since the last Drinks and Links post and I needed to catch you up on some things.
Today’s drink is a fun take on the classic mojito. A couple weeks ago when I went out to dinner with my mom, she ordered something similar to this and it was delicious. Mojitos are definitely one of my favorite cocktails, and I just love the idea of using basil instead of mint. It’s like a whole new drink, but with the same delicious concept.
Let’s mix one up!
Here's what you'll need:
2 lime wedges
8-10 basil leaves
2 ounces white rum
1 ounce simple syrup*
Basil leaf for garnish
In a tall glass, muddle the lime, basil and simple syrup. Fill the glass with ice and then add the rum. Top off the glass with soda water. Gently stir. Garnish with a basil leaf or sprig and an adorable straw.
*Simple Syrup - Combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan. Bring this to a boil. Simmer for about 10 minutes or until the sugar is dissolved and a thicker syrup forms. Chill and store in the refrigerator until use.
Yes, it tastes as delicious as it looks.
If you like your drinks on the sweeter side, you can use something like Sierra Mist instead of club soda. Now, go mix yourself up this refreshing spring-inspired cocktail and meet me back here for a few of my favorite links.

I just received Sweet Paul’s new book in the mail! It’s full of deliciousness and crafts. A winning combination. I can’t wait to sit down (maybe with a big ol’ Basil Mojito) and leaf through its awesomeness.
Drizzled Easter Eggs? Yes and yes!
Simple Green Smoothies just launched their newest 30-Day Smoothie Challenge. I think I’m going to give it a try! You?
And that, my friends, wraps up another Drinks and Links! I’m off for a run in hopes of soaking up some of this sunshine. Have a happy day! (Oh, and those amazing flowers are from here. Aren’t they perfection!?)
