I know. I know. The title of this post has many of you cringing. No matter how we feel about it, November will soon be here. And while I haven’t started decorating for the holidays yet (Don’t panic!), it has been on my mind.

For the last few years, my focus for holiday decorating was on my gift shoppe. Multiple trees and countless displays sucked up most of my holiday decorating energy so that by the time I got around to my own space, I rarely did anything more than put up my Christmas tree. Well, with no shop to decorate and a whole new office space in front of me, I’m kind of excited about the upcoming season.

So much so, that I’ve already started planning and purchasing a few goodies. Some new and some old.

I’ve actually been watching eBay like a hawk for vintage holiday goodies. I even created a few holiday-inspired collections. You can check them out and follow them here, here, and here.

I was also challenged by a company that sells Christmas Trees to decorate a “non-traditional” tree (i.e., a tree that isn’t green pine). And I received this giant peace sign wreath from my friends at CB2 with the invitation to turn it into a unique display. Thankfully, by some miracle, I already have some really cool ideas for both of these pieces. I can’t wait to share them with you.

This year my holiday decorating has been really inspired by color.

I’m also liking anything from the Ghost of Christmas Past (a.k.a. vintage). Just the right amount of vintage tackiness creates fun yet modern holiday cheer. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I can pull it off.

I figure though, that if I like these vintage pieces so much on their own, I’m bound to love them in my space. Right?

Love the colors! The decorating at our house it vintage/eclectic so anything for the most part goes! We use clear lights on the tree, and in the windows, but color everywhere else.

I have been slowly piecing together some older ornaments and working them into our decorations each year. We have a dining room tree, all white with candy and vintage ornaments. The tree was a gift to our son from Santa on a trip one year. He had an upper respiratory infection and we were watching Sandra Lee before leaving for a long trip we weren’t so sure we should be taking. She had an all white candy tree and he fell in love with it and asked for one. Santa managed to pull a similar one together in our room Christmas Eve for him to find when he woke up. Other decorations come and go each year but that tree has remained the same basic theme with small additions each year. It is a lovely remembrance of the last big vacation our entire family took together before our Mom became ill.

What an awesome story! I just love that. You know, that’s what the holidays are all about. Those special traditions that keep your family close and remain forever in your heart. Thanks for sharing Mandy!

Love the colors and the vintage! Of course this is how I usually decorate our house :). We love to talk about the old ornaments/decorations when we put them out, Reminiscing about where and/or who they came from. Is it ever to early to start decorating?:) I just love the smell, sights, and sounds of the holiday time. Looking forward to your projects.

I love this post! I gobble up anything holidays. I understand many want to wait wait wait but I say bring on the tinsel! I can’t wait to see all the beautiful things you come up with. I have a small house that feels like it’s busting at the seams so I feel like I can’t decorate like I’d love to I have to little ones and one on the way… I’m just struggling to find a place for the tree amongst the barrage of toys. Live easy Michael, cheers!

I tend to agree with you Angela! It’s your house and your holiday, you might as well decorate when and how you’d like. Right? I’m sure you’ll figure out the perfect way to decorate with little ones – lots of felt decor? decorate out of their reach? Best of luck!

I’ve been excitedly planning Christmas decor for months now and am looking forward to start stringing the bling. I used to have a self-imposed rule of no Christmas items out before December 1st. But this year, November better be ready for all the glitter and shine. (Sorry Thanksgiving!)

Haha. I know. I hear you. It’s so hard to resist. And I want to enjoy it all for as long as possible! Happy Decorating!
