Almost a year ago I did a short Q&A series on the blog called Ask MeYou left questions in the comments section and I answered them. (After looking back I just realized I never did share The Answers: Part 3 of that series. Oops! Sorry about that.) When I first announced 31 Days of Happiness, I mentioned doing a video at some point. To be completely honest, I’m actually pretty nervous about a video. I have a few self-confidence issues that have prevented me from making one. Anyway, it’s time to tackle those fears and just do it!

I’ve been trying to think of some ideas for videos. I have a few, but they just aren’t ready to happen yet, and I fear they may not be ready by the end of October. Plus, once I hit the publish button on this post, whether I like it or not, I’m committed. So, with that being said, I decided to turn to all of you for help. For my first videoI’d like to do a Q&A. You ask the questions, I’ll answer them. Sound good?

They can be short questions, long questions, funny questions, easy questions, or hard questions. The more questions, the better. I obviously won’t be able to answer them all, but I’ll do my best. If you feel a question is inappropriate or way too personal, it’s probably best not to ask it. Please leave all of your questions in the comment section of this post. It will help me stay a little bit more organized.

How does this sound? Do you like this idea? Do you want a video?

Thanks in advance for all of your awesome questions!

This is the 10th post in my 31 Days of Happiness Series.

A video sounds a brilliant idea. Hmmm a question? How about, if you were to visit the UK one day, what would be top of your list to go and see/experience? Px

  • Paul Browning - The Artsider at

Just seen Leelees question – brilliant! but you have to come craft with me too – heck we’ll get a gang of us together lol. Px

Go for it Michael! We believe in you!
Here’s my ?: what does your average daily schedule look like? I am amazed and inspired by all you accomplish daily. Thanks & Best Wishes,dd

  • Liz at

Hi Michael! I think a video is an awesome idea! Maybe a little tour of your town? I’m curious to see it. My question is, if you didn’t live there, where would you choose to live?

  • Anonymous at

Video yes! I loved the “viddy” from yesterday. It brought a much needed smile to my face! As Liz said, a little tour of St. Mary’s would be a nice place to start. And if you aren’t comfortable being in front of a video camera to start off with, you could maybe just narrate the first one. That way we can at least hear your voice:) My question is: Do you have a “staff” that helps you run your Inn? Like housekeeping, laundry, etc.

I agree with ” unknown”….how about a video of your daily schedule so we can all get to know you a little better! It might be a good starter vid….go with what you know, then branch out!

Hey Michael! I think you have a great smile – so straight, so bright! This is a super silly question, but what is your dental hygiene routine?!

    Keep smiling 😀

I’d love to see a video, Michael! I’m curious to know where you learned everything – You cook, you sew, you bake, you decorate. The list goes on and on! Did you learn from your mom or grandma or someone growing up? In school? As an adult? Or does it all just come naturally.

I know that you make delicious breakfasts for your inn guests. My question: do you always try these recipes out in advance or do you ever just “wing it” w/ a new recipe? Also, has a meal for guests ever flopped? If so what did you do?

  • emilyjlee at

How did you get up (develop) the guts to dive into your dream (the bed & breakfast)? And were there specific people in your life who were particularly supportive/encouraging?
I too have a dream… a someday kind of dream. I hope someday I have the courage to see it through.

  • Diane at

I would love to know how you got started crafting. You are so CREATIVE! Thank you for your inspiration. Although I haven’t the time to do what you do, the pictures of your projects are heartwarmimng to see.

  • Jess Lines at

Hi! I would love too see a video. I would love to see one on easy crafts under say 10 minutes. My question is, how would you use old papers in a decorating project? I have a ton of super old papers with no idea how to use them.

  • Wimmy at

How did you make your blog so successful? I am struggling to get followers on my blog.. by the way I love your blog…

  • Andrea Miyata at

I also agree with “Unknown” and “Swede and Ole”–it would be interesting to know what your daily schedule is. Specifically, do you do anything special to keep up your energy? I typically have a lot of motivation / energy early in the day, but find myself flagging by mid-afternoon. It seems like you get a lot more accomplished in your day than many of us do!

  • Miki at

I agree with Wimmy:) You have an awesome blog and I’m also curious how you got it noticed & obtained so many followers. Another question, reflecting on your blogging career: What was the hardest thing you encountered?

  • Gigi at

Question- how long did you contemplate having the blog before you began? Were you a blog follower that became inspired and decided if they can do it I can too? Or did it take you a while to think about it, the time, energy, effort and commitment? You seem like the type who ran and jumped in with both feet, but maybe not so. I am an avid blog follower and I am amazed at how much is put into it and people work full time, have children and household responsibilities. I desire so deeply to be like one of you. My creativity wells so that I feel like bursting at the seams, but I am flat out scared to take the plunge I think. Anyway, just curious as to your beginning of joining the amazing blog-world.
Keep up the amazing work and congratulations on all of your hard earned accomplishments!

B&Bs make me nervous because I’m an introvert/weirdo. Should I be nervous? Do quiet house guests make your nervous? 😛

The crown on the shelf in your Oz pics… Where did you find it??

  • Funnelcloud Rachel at

Super excited to see your video, Michael! I think everyone feels self-conscious on camera (Personally, I think my recorded voice sounds like a toad!), but I’m sure you’ll do fine! 🙂

I agree with the others about doing a Day in the Life – actually, I think a separate video about this would be really interesting (thought it might be hard to film yourself all day)!

  • Anonymous at

“A Day in the Life” video would be cool – and probably not as intimidating as a sit down and face the camera video. I’ll warn you, though, to me, my voice never sounds the same on tape or film. That, and for some reason I’m never as hilarious as I think I am!

Don’t be shy! We love you and will love seeing you on video!
1- I’d love to see a tour of your house and yard.
2- ? What were your favorite 3 projects you did in 2012?
3- ? What is your favorite project of all time?
4- Where do you get your inspiration for the things you create?
Thanks for opening up to us and sharing a bit more of yourself!!!

  • Jennifer Bussey at

Love the idea of a video, too. Give the people what they want, man! It looks like a tour of your home and/or life is in order, for sure. Here are a few others:
What are some fun, inexpensive ways to incorporate trends into your home decor? (You could even address this skill by skill. For example, sewing ideas, paper craft ideas, knick knack ideas, etc.)
Principles for decorating those areas that tend to trip us up, like big empty walls, mantles, or bookcases with more than books.
And maybe go ahead and do a video about how/why you started the blog and got it to take off. You could even enlist one of your wine buddies to be the “interviewer” so it wouldn’t feel so much like you staring into the camera and just talking.

    Can’t wait!

  • Laurie Newman at

Michael, my question is…What has been your greatest fear and how have you overcome it?

  • jam at

What piece of advice would you give to someone who’s got a very little bit of experience in the world of blogging and designing/decorating but feels like it might be the very best place for them?

Can’t wait to see your video!

  • Happy Little Crafter at

How about a video showing us one of your kitchen drawers and then demo one of your favorite kitchen gadgets from that drawer along with where we can buy one (or two)!

  • Lisa Anne at

I agree with Wimmy and Miki – how did you get to be so successful with your blog? I am an aspiring writer and would love to be able to become more successful with my blog (gaining followers, etc). I have let it go for awhile but am just getting started up again with it seriously as I now have more time to commit to it. Speaking of commitments, I also love the daily routine/St Mary’s tour idea. I just have to say, there is no reason for you to be self conscious (although I deal with those issues too, so I know how it is!). You are super talented, super creative and have a great personality! Yours are my favorite pins to repin on Pinterest! 🙂

  • Becky at

I have always thought about running a bed and breakfast so my question relates to that: What is your biggest challenge/difficulty/obstacle related to running your inn? I hope to come stay there soon!!
