They say starting is half the battle. I totally agree. It’s been a while since I talked about my room update. Well, that’s because it’s been a while since I’ve actually done anything in this space. Shame on me!

I decided to give myself a deadline to get this room painted. Starting this past Monday, I gave myself ten days. I know that seems like a lot of time just to paint one little room, but this week and the next one are crazy busy. I assumed I would need as much time as I could have.

Thankfully, things are moving so much quicker than I expected. Every little hole is patched and sanded and all signs of the old wallpaper are gone. You can see my design plan here.

Between Monday and Tuesday evening, I also managed to get all the trim painted! Although I really don’t mind painting, I’m glad to be finished with it.

Are you loving my impromptu window treatment? With no blinds and neighbors nearby, it’s kind of important. I didn’t think they’d want to see my horrible dancing. Yes, music and sporadic dancing are an essential part of my painting process. In case you’re wondering, this is the song I’ve been dancing to these past few days.

Let me tell you, there is nothing better than a fresh coat of white trim paint. The space is already feeling crisper and cleaner. I love it!

Tonight and tomorrow I’m hoping to tackle the ceiling. This means finally removing the nondescript ceiling fan that hangs over the space.

I cannot wait until that baby is gone! If all goes well, the new light fixture should be hung by Friday. That will actually put me way ahead of schedule.

After that, I will just have to paint the walls which should be a piece of cake. So, fingers crossed, this time next week I will be able to show you my completely painted room. Yay!

Oh, and my kitty Sebastian wanted to say, Hi. His little ears managed to sneak into one of my pictures.

I’m not sure he was thrilled about my interrupting his nap to take pictures, but he really didn’t have a choice.

And his paws. I just can’t get enough of them. Cat owners / lovers, you know what I mean, right?

Okay, back to painting. Wish me luck.

That room is going to look so pretty and light! I know what you mean about paws…except I am talking about doggie paws (I am allergic to cats). My Westie will fold his paws under sometimes and it looks so uncomfortable to me (as if he has wrists, haha) but he is perfectly happy.

We have remodeled our home from top to bottom except for installing the new baseboard and crown molding. It seems like such an overwhelming task! Your pictures of freshly painted trim look amazing and are motivating me to get it done!!

Wow! Awesome progress! It’s looking so good! and so funny – I’ve been listening to the radio while renovating the tiny apartment and that song is always on for me too. 😉

Awe…love the paws. I just shared our kitty ‘helping’ me this past week too. haha!

Have a great productive week! Looking forward to seeing the reveal!

Holy Moly your cat looks EXACTLY like my favorite kitty of all time, Lucy. Like identical down to the eye squint and the black lining around his nose. Does he have a tail? Mine was a manx so she didn’t. Best cat ever! On a side note, love love love the trip on the windows! Can’t wait to see the room finished.

Don’t you just love it when our pets keep us company wherever we’re working in the house? Love the split shot of Sebastian and his paws. Good on ya for tackling the room… looking forward to the reveal! 🙂

Thanks for sharing the design plan. I totally need a design plan! The light fixture you’re replacing the ceiling fan with is outstanding and the Madeline chair is oddly named to me, because it has very masculine lines. It is not a Madeline–it is handsome. You did NOT ask for such an opinion, I know. This room is going to be a wonderful retreat! Sebastian looks like my childhood cat–Rumbo. 🙂 Good luck with the rest of the painting!

Michael, thanks for sharing pictures of Sebastian ! Painting’s okay, but I could look at kitty pictures all day ! He looks like my Riley. Same frown.

Oh yes, fresh white trim is the best! I remember when all our trim was dark wood–now can’t imagine having that! I am always telling our cat how precious his little paws are, and, they are!!

    Michael,

Your trim looks great! Like a professional! If you get a chance to reply to this comment, could you explain your process of painting trim? (i.e. what paint, what brush, etc.) I am re-doing the basement room to make it into my room and have a lot of painting to do on the walls and the trim.

    Thanks,
    Tori

I’m enjoying the whole paint thing going on at your house — I love to paint, myself, so seeing what other people are doing with it is fun.

Sebastian is very handsome! I love kitty feet. 🙂

Paws are the best! I have a brown tabby as well, and I love her little, un-patterned paw tips. (PS. Sebastian is the cutest name ever!)

Also, I can’t wait to see your finished product. You did such a good job of the trim!

Sebastian is darling, and your room is looking great. You are right, when it comes to painting for sure, just getting started is half the battle! Still daydreaming about your amazing cookies btw 🙂

The room is coming along wonderfully, but oh that Sebastian. He is SO “pretty”! I’m a huge cat lover. Have 3 of my own. I certainly do know what you mean about cat paws!
