It happens to me every year. Every. Stinkin’. Year. A midsummer slump. Please tell me I’m not the only one. My motivation and creativity has completely abandoned me. My food intake is a disaster. Literally for the past two week I have eaten more junk food than I have at any given point in my life, and it shows. It really shows.

I literally just want to sit and watch every show I missed over the past year including Awkward (probably my new favorite show – thanks Bobbi Jo.), reruns of Drop Dead Diva, Don’t Trust the B* in Apartment 23, and others I can’t think of. I mean, seriously, what’s going on. Again, someone, please tell me I’m not alone here.

So, between yesterday and today I decided things needed to change. I decided to quit bitchin’ and do something. (Totally ordered that print by the way. – Love it!) My midsummer slump is ending early this year and I’m am going to soak up every beautiful minute it has to offer. Not only did I go for a five mile walk/run both yesterday and today. I threw away all the ‘junk’ food and loaded my fridge with vegetables, fruits, almonds, yogurt and other healthful energy inducing foods.

It’s amazing what a few little changes can do. I’m already sensing a tiny bit of my motivation and creativity creeping back in.

I’m also crossing a few things off my to-do list including paying bills, checking/reading/responding to over 2,000 emails (yeah, I’m terribly sorry If you emailed me and I have not responded. I’m blaming it on my Midsummer Slump. I’m getting there.), coming up with a better blogging schedule, and even writing some goals. It feels good.

So, watch out summer, cause here I come!

Hi Michael! No, you aren’t alone at all! Last week I ate way to much and while eating I was thinking “Why are you doing this” glad I got out of that slump:) I started to work out today! It’s just been to hot to do anything!

I was so rejoicing that I had found a partner in ‘crime’, then you had to go and RUIN IT with great productivity and healthy habits! :)) It’s just been so hot here and no rain and it’s taking all my energy to water everyday and keep stuff alive. Can’t even get up the energy to get on the bike! But…fiddle-dee-dee: tomorrow IS another day, huh? I’m a new follower!!!!

You go Michael!!! I haven’t slumped totally but I have totally slacked on the exercise routine and eating right. I need to get back on track too. Thanks for the motivation/inspiration. I’ve just been so BUSY and, well, I have no excuse! Lol. Glad to read this and feel like I can follow in your footsteps. πŸ™‚

I’m right there with you on the junk food binge and messed up blogging routine. For example, I was blogging at 12:00 a.m. and here it is 4:35 a.m. and I’m back at it. Good luck to you – I’ll be watching closely for motivation πŸ™‚

Ugh slumming and junking myself. My own fault, in the vaults of my mind I think it’s my right as a Leo to waste away the summer (as soon as July hits, I go into massive lazy gear), yet the rational side of my mind has an endless list of things to get accomplished.
My mother is of no help. When I jingle her for a little motivation, her reply is “lay down til that feeling passes”. Sigh.
Thanks for pointing it out Michael, you’ve shamed me into getting something done today πŸ˜‰

I believe it is the heat! Here in Florida I pretty much shut down during August…will try to keep your motivational tips in mind and think about putting them into motion πŸ˜‰ Good luck!!!

You are NOT alone with that slump… I’m experiencing the same thing. I need to get back to the gym, start eating healthier again, and regain my energy. I have been so tired lately. Help!

Yo are definitely not alone in your slump. Sounds like you’re gettin’ your groove back πŸ˜‰

Summer heat really takes it’s toll so much harder, too if I don’t eat healthy- I live in 100 degree northern CA, and I just look at it like, “hey, it’s so damn hot, I don’t want to cook or bake or even stand up, but a salad is the easiest thing to make ever!” I only buy light white meats in summer because they cook faster, less effort! And I feel soo much better when I’m good! I have been starting to slump myself, and my boyfriend has slumped HARD. It’s always easier to try to fix other people than yourself, right? πŸ˜‰ You’ve shamed me a bit as well- I guess a good run schedule would do the trick after those salads and goals…
I LOVE your blog and pinterest pins- such awesome stuff- thank you for your hard work on the interwebs! Inspiring!

I’m right there with you on the slump, Michael! All this heat and humidity makes me want to veg in front of the TV or computer to watch Netflix…which I’ve done plenty of. Funny you should mention Drop Dead Diva; my DVR screwed up so I missed the first month of episodes so I’m going to have to catch up on that series at my sister’s house. Love that show so much!

Good for you for getting back into the swing of things though! I think we need to take breaks just to make us appreciate the healthy routines that keep us on track most of the time. πŸ™‚

110% with you on this, Michael. I’m on a big time summer slump right now. Your post has inspired me to get my ass into gear! Thank you.

Thanks for your post Michael. It’s good to know I’m not alone in my slumpiness! I’m sure it’s the heat…I just gotta plan my workouts before it gets too hot to do anything, but not so late that I’m eaten alive by mosquitos! I’m in Northern CA, and it’s 93* right now at 7:45PM.

Slump? I ain’t in any darn slump! Nope, I’ve completely laid down flat and let the truck run over me a couple of times. There’s no sense in reviving either because the lovely break in the humidity and heat in north-central Massachusetts is ending Friday. Thank goodness for sitting in front of the fan in my underwear entertaining myself with the laptop or reading. But so far I’ve managed to avoid a lot of snacking just drinking watered down juice or plain old water – don’t want to regain those 20 pounds. Good for you for restocking the refrig – maybe I should do that too, it’d be cool standing with the door open,.. (giggle)

It’ll get better, Michael. Either that or we’ll get used to it.

It’s nice to know that even YOU experience the same slump. I know what my next steps need to be, but haven’t been able to execute the plan. Not anymore! Inspiration struck this week (I think because I was tired of hearing my inside voice whine about the same stuff!) and goals are no longer dirty words. Thanks, Michael, for keeping us inspired with your upbeat outlook on life, and seeing joy in the little things.
