so remember on thursday when i showed you the evolution of a wall in my gift shoppe? well, i’m about to change another wall, so i thought i’d share it’s ‘evolution’ as well.

this is how it started.

Inspired By Charm

when i bought the b&b a portion of what is now my gift shoppe was a guest room and bathroom. as you can see the picture about shows the door to the bathroom (after i already began the reno) and a wall that separated the guest room from another space (to the right).

and here is what the room looked like after lots demo and reconstruction … and a gift shoppe was born.

Inspired By Charm

the above image is fall 2008, the grand opening of the shop and it features the following quote on a wall i painted with chalkboard paint. (which i love and i don’t care if you think it’s ‘out of date’)

If there were ever a time to dare,
To make a difference
To embark on something worth doing
It is now.
Not for any grand cause, necessarily –
But for something that tugs at your heart
Something that is worth your aspiration
Something that is your dream.
You owe it to yourself

To make your days count.
Have fun. Dig deep. Stretch.
Dream big.

Know, though,
That things worth doing
Seldom come easy,
There will be times when you want to
Turn around
Pack it up and call it quits
Those times tell you
That you are pushing yourself
And that you are not afraid to learn by trying.

Persist.

Because with an idea,
Determination and the right tools,
You can do great things.
Let your instincts, your intellect
And let your heart guide you.

Trust.

Believe in the incredible power
Of the human mind
Of doing something that makes a difference
Of working hard
Of laughing and hoping
Of lasting friends
Of all the things that will cross your path

The start of something new
Brings the hope of something great.
Anything is possible
There is only one you
And you will pass this way but once.

Do it right.
Dream Big.

the author is unknown. but, i’ve always, always loved this quote and felt it was more than appropriate for the first time i opened my doors.

Inspired By Charm

it made an easy transition into winter. i simply erased ‘dream big’ and added christmas/winter quotes.

Inspired By Charm

spring 2009 inspired a large apple blossom tree and a quote about spring and planting. this was one of my favorites.

and again i forgot summer and fall of 2009. i must have been taking pictures of other things then. who knows? back to christmas…

Inspired By Charm

i moved some furniture around for winter 2009 covering a good chunk of the wall, so just one quote from these great cards covered the wall.

Inspired By Charm

and that brings us to Spring 2010.

Inspired By Charm

i drew shelves and then filled them with books. some stacked vertical, some horizontal, some falling over. this is another favorite. too cool. right?

Inspired By Charm

now it’s time for the books to come down. i’ll be sure to show you monday or tuesday what has replaced them. hope you’re having a fab weekend!

I love that wall! I really like the books! So clever! Can’t wait to see what your next design it.

I have a small chalkboard easel that stands in my entryway and it’s so fun to be creative with it-my kids get involved too!

I found your blog from a comment you left on Thrifty Decor Chick’s blog, Michael. I’ve been enjoying browsing your blog. I love this wall! What a great idea and “dressing” it must make things easier as the seasons and holidays change.

Your chalkboard decor is fabulous! I have had a chalkboard wall in my kitchen for about a year now, and I am working on drawing up some antique frames. Very inspirational. 🙂
