Ready for a drink that screams fall? Picture your favorite apple pie, but in drink form. That’s right, we’re making Apple Pie Sangria today. It’s got all the cozy vibes of autumn, and it’s seriously tasty.

As you may have noticed, sangria is among my favorite libations to create. (You can find all of my recipes here.) The first time I remember having really good sangria was back when I lived in Philly.

Ever since then I’ve been hooked on the stuff and will come up with any excuse to make it. It’s the perfect beverage for a party since large quantities can be made in advance. Plus, it’s fancy without being fussy. That’s my kind of beverage.

In this post, I’m adding to my every growing list of sangria recipes with this Apple Pie Sangria!

During the fall, I love making sangria with fresh apple cider and spices. Drinking it is like a slice of heaven on earth.

I’m calling this Apple Pie Sangria because it includes all of the flavors we love in traditional apple pie (sans the crust). Apple recipes are some of my favorites for fall. To bring in those classic apple pie spices, I make my own Apple Pie Spice Simple Syrup. It might sound complicated, but let me assure you, it’s not. It’s just your basic simple syrup recipe with spices added. That’s it.

I have a full post dedicated to my simple syrup recipes if you want to read more about them and how to use them.

And now, onto the fall sangria show!

Ingredients

Before we start making this Apple Pie Sangria, let’s gather up the ingredients you’ll need.

  • green and red apples
  • pear
  • orange (or lemon)*
  • Pinot Grigio (or you favorite mild white wine
  • salted caramel vodka (caramel vodka)
  • apple cider
  • cinnamon stick
  • apple pie spice simple syrup

To make the apple pie spice simple syrup:

  • water
  • sugar
  • spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, allspice)

*Side note: You may notice I used a lemon but the recipe calls for an orange. While a lemon certainly works, I recommend an orange. I just happened to have a lemon on hand when I prepared this.

Recipe Tips

  1. Quality First: Whether it’s the wine for the base or the fruits you add, always opt for good quality. Remember, even in a mixed drink like sangria, the taste of the wine is evident.
  2. Chill and Marinate: For the richest flavor, let your sangria sit in the fridge for a few hours before serving. This allows the ingredients to meld together beautifully.
  3. Sweet but Not Too Sweet: While the Apple Pie Spice Simple Syrup adds a delightful touch, be cautious of over-sweetening. Fruits release their natural sugars, so taste before adding more sweeteners.
  4. Homemade Syrup: Although it’s tempting to go for store-bought options, the authentic flavor of a homemade Apple Pie Spice Simple Syrup is unbeatable.
  5. Ice Matters: Serve sangria cold. Add ice to individual glasses, not the pitcher, to prevent diluting the entire batch.
  6. Freshness is Key: Always use fresh, ripe fruits. The juiciness and flavor of in-season fruits can elevate your sangria.
  7. Store with Care: If you have leftovers, store sangria in a sealed container in the fridge. It tastes best when consumed within 1-2 days.
  8. Experiment: Traditional sangrias are red or white, but don’t be bound by tradition. Try rosé sangria or even a non-alcoholic sangria for a delightful twist.
