Did you happen to catch the MTV Video Music Awards presentation on Sunday? I did. Maybe I’m getting old and just don’t get the music of today, but I thought the show was terrible. When did lip syncing or half singing live songs become the norm? (Also, if you’re going to lip sync, you should probably try to do it convincingly. That’s not too much to ask, right?) I don’t want to discredit the artistry and talent of some of the performers; they just weren’t my cup of tea.
VMAs aside, I have found myself listening to country tunes over the past couple days. I know there are folks who don’t like this genre, but country music will always have a special place in my heart. No matter how much time passes, the music stays true to its roots. The songs are real and always tell a story. Yes, sometimes that storyline is repetitive, but I don’t mind.
For my latest Tuesday Tunes, I put together a playlist I’m calling Going Country. It’s a collection of newer songs that I’m loving right now. (If you’re a country music fan and like the classics, you should check out my 90’s Country playlist. It has so much pep that I often play it while running.) It had been a while since I listened to the country station, so it’s been fun discovering a new generation of tunes. Plus, it’s comforting to know that there are still amazing artists with outstanding voices who like to sing. (Take note, VMAs.)
You can use the playlist above to sing along with me or listen directly on Spotify by clicking here.
