Treasures | Inspired by Charm

My mom’s birthday is this week. With yesterday being a holiday, she had the day off so we scooted out of town (our go-to spot is State College, PA for those wondering) for a little celebrating via retail therapy. I found some pretty sweet things I thought I’d share with you today. Sound good?

After picking up a White Chocolate Mocha at Starbucks (You guys are aware I live about 1.5 hours from any decent shopping, so hitting up places like Starbucks and Target are a pretty big deal, right?), we headed to HomeGoods. I was so excited to see that they had a fab selection of Jonathan Adler products. Can I get a “Woot, woot!”? While I mostly resisted temptation, I practically squealed out loud when I saw these lamps. I had almost bought them from another retailer, but didn’t because of the price. At only $50 each (originally $129), this time the decision was simple.

Not to get into too much detail right now, but I’m planning to tackle the three bedrooms in the upstairs of my house. With a new attitude toward life, I’m hoping I’ll find what I need to get these projects moving. (More on that soon.) However, these lamps will be perfect in one of the rooms I’m redoing.

I also bought more pillows. Seriously people, I’m having a major couch pillow dilemma. While I love all the pillows I found, they just aren’t working for me. So instead of making a plan, I just keep buying pillows. I’m afraid it’s gotten a little out of control. So, as much as I love these, I’m afraid they are still not “the ones.” Am I the only one who struggles with pillows? Save me!

Back to some other no-so-stressful purchases. I found this adorable ceramic piggy. He’s going to get a few succulents planted in his back.

We then went over to the mother ship, Target. With all of the shelving in my office and living room I was on the hunt for a few knick knacks. I fell in love with this yellow vase. They come in different shapes and colors and I wanted to take them all home, I showed restraint and stuck with this guy.

Okay, I lied. I also picked up a similar one in navy for a future bedroom project.

This little green bowl was begging to come home with me, too, so into the cart it went.

Then, I picked up a few of these brown craft polka dot bags. It’s always nice to have cute, neutral, inexpensive bags on hand. For 75 cents a piece, I bought them all.

At Michael’s I picked up some canvases, paint, and gold leaf for a fun DIY art project for the wall space above my TV. Hopefully, I will start that this weekend and share the details with you next week.

We also hit up the mall and I picked up a few more personal products. I’ve been on a hunt for some new cologne and fell in love with the Luna Rossa fragrance from Prada. From what I understand, it was inspired by sailing so it will be perfect for summer. It’s very crisp and clean. Maybe a little citrusy with herbal notes and a slight touch of wood. Haha. I know that sounds crazy, but it’s awesome. Ladies and gents if you’re looking for something for yourself or a significant other, this comes highly recommended.

And I also found a little emerald gingham at the Gap. I have a hard time resisting gingham anything.

In other news, my brass pineapple bookends from Hunters Alley arrived and they are better than I imagined. Commence freak out.

Also, today on BHG’s Delish Dish I’m starting a new series called A Year of Pizza (inspired by A Year of Pie). I’m kicking things off with this Beef and Blue Pizza. It’s epic.

Speaking of BHG, earlier this week I was talking about geometric patterns on Style Spotters. You can check that out here.

And that’s about it for me. What new treasures have you found recently that got you really excited?

Love all your pretty purchases–especially those lamps, gorgeous! Also I just gasped out loud at those pineapple bookends–I die, they’re perfect. And I love your book selection– “I Am Not Myself These Days” is one of my all time favorites!! I met Josh about a year ago & I am just the biggest fan. He is the best. (Like I needed another reason to coo over your blog.) Hope you’re having a great day, Michael. <3

Awww. Thank you so much. I’m pretty pleased with everything. I’ve actually yet to finish “I Am Not Myself These Days”. I have an understanding of what happens at the end and I just don’t want to get there. Haha. I like the happy story. I know, I’m weird. Haha.

      Thanks Liz!

Yes!! Hunters Alley is my new obsession…I’m loving buying and selling over there. So many goodies! And the staples (Target and Home Goods) never disappoint! πŸ™‚

I so know what you mean about pillows!! I have 2 couches ( living room and basement ) that I can’t wait to fill up……I just haven’t found the right ones. I’ve had no troubles buying ugly pillows for their lovely down inserts, but I just cannot seem to find any pillow covers in the colours/pattern/material that I like. Best of luck to the both of us….lol.
P.S. I bought 2 of those little bowls too πŸ˜‰

Love all your new pretties! Especially those vases — gotta get those! I wish I lived further away from shopping. Everybody in my family knows: If I ever go missing, just look for me in Target! πŸ™‚

Happy Birthday to your mom! I am also sooo happy that I am not the only one with a pillow problem. I see so many beautiful pillows in great colors or fabric to make pillows, and find myself buying/exchanging and/or redoing my them. I find myself wanting to change a room just to use a pillow only to find myself finding another I like more, which leads me to where I am right now with No pillows on my sofa in my office. I just cannot find ones that are just right, so I feel you pain! I do have to say the lamps you got are to die for I absolutely love them. Thanks for sharing all your finds!

love all your purchases — I was checking out your books and later saw House Girl on sale for the kindle for $1.99 and was inspired to buy it based on it being in your collection πŸ™‚

Looks like I’ll need to see if the Jonathan Adler stuff headed across down from the department store to Homegoods around here…

Fun post, Michael! The best shopping day is when you find so many cool things at great prices!! I hear you on decent shopping that is far away. I was beyond excited (and doing my happy dance) when a Home Goods opened closer to my home verses a 40 minute drive into Pittsburgh. I’ll be checking out what they have tomorrow! Hopefully I will find some good finds too. Sending birthday wishes to your Mom!

What a fun day! Target is my happy place. I’m loving the bags. I also love HomeGoods and have scored some great finds there. I’m not sure if you have a Sam’s Club by you, but I recently found a 3 tier swivel wood and metal server that is pretty cool and only $25. I also found a set of 3 glass canisters with chalk board signs for $20. I totally didn’t need either of these things, but it’s too hard to pass up a good find. Headed over to check out your pizza πŸ™‚

It’s all so good! I love that you squeal in homegoods… we would make a great shopping team. My husband leaves when I start heavy petting :p

  • Alison at

First of all, love the pineapple bookends. Secondly, my boyfriend and I have been searching for months for the perfect sofa pillows so I hear ya on that one! And finally, I’m a displaced Texan living in Austria for the last 14 years, so any trip to Target when I’m back home is cause to celebrate πŸ™‚

  • Katie at

I have the same problem with pillows!! I am constantly buying new ones but never seem to have the right combo. I’ve read blog posts and articles on how to mix and match patterns, to no avail. I drive myself nuts!

  • Miranda at

I thought I was the only person in the world with pineapple bookends! My mom found an old set a few years back and I’ve been kicking myself for spray painting over the original brass finish… Yours are darling!

  • Jane at

I had the same problem finding sofa pillows. Know where I ended up finding some GREAT pillows with a really unique pattern? The patio/garden department at Lowes!! Keep checking – they should have their spring/summer items out now or in the next few weeks.

Fortunately (unfortunately?) for me, Target is about a mile from my house. I’m going there at my lunch hour to get that yellow vase and some of those gift bags…thanks for the tips!!

  • Emily at

I seriously think I just read your ENTIIIRRREEEE blog!
I kept pinning things on pinterest and then realized they were ALL from your house – so I just had to stop by!
You have such great style… Thanks for such a great inspiration!!
    You have a new fan!
