This fruity and flavorful recipe is a fun and tropical twist on classic sangria. It’s certain to please everyone’s taste buds and take your summer entertaining to the next level.
I’m super excited to bring you today’s recipe. It’s a Pineapple Mango Sangria. Last week when I was in Chicago I was served one of these as part of a fabulous dinner. While I didn’t have the exact recipe, I got creative and made a pretty close, if not better, replica at home.
This is such a fun take on traditional sangria. It’s really fresh and not overly sweet. Instead of the usual brandy, I used St. Germain, an elderflower liqueur. It gives a unique flavor and freshness to the drink. I will warn you – it’s a bit expensive (about $30-35 per bottle), but it’s worth every penny!
Also, mangoes are readily available in the supermarket these days and are so sweet and juicy. They make a great little garnish.
I’m really loving the fresh herbs in here too. The basil really adds to the depth of flavor. If you’re a fan of herby cocktails you also need to check out my watermelon basil cocktail, strawberry thyme martini, and strawberry basil martini.

Recipe Notes and Variations
To take your sangria game to the next level, here are a few tips and tricks to keep in mind.
- Make sure to use fresh fruit that is in season for optimal flavor. Additionally, consider using a variety of fruits to add depth and complexity to your sangria.
- When it comes to the wine, opt for a dry and crisp white like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc. This will help balance out the sweetness from the fruit and any added sugar.
- Another fun variation is to infuse your sangria with different spices or herbs, such as fresh mint leaves, or ginger root. This can add a whole new level of complexity to your drink, making it perfect for more sophisticated palettes.
The possibilities are truly endless when it comes to sangria variations, so don’t be afraid to get creative and experiment with different flavor combinations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make this sangria ahead of time?
Absolutely! In fact, we recommend it. Sangria tastes best when it has time to sit and allow the flavors to meld together. Just be sure to keep it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve.
Can I use a different type of fruit?
Of course! One of the best things about sangria is that it’s so versatile. Feel free to use any fruit that you have on hand or that you think would go well with the flavors in this recipe. Some good options might include strawberries, raspberries, or peaches.
Can I use a different type of alcohol?
Yes, you can definitely experiment with different types of alcohol. White wine is the traditional choice for sangria, but you could also try using rosé or even red wine. You can also use brandy or rum in place of the St. Germain.
Can I make this recipe non-alcoholic?
Totally! To make a non-alcoholic version of this recipe, simply omit the wine and replace it with sparkling grape juice and additional pineapple juice.
This might easily become my favorite drink for those late-summer evenings on the porch. It also gives me an excuse to use up some of my basil that is growing like a weed.

Michael,
That glass & silver pitcher is gorgeous. Assuming it is vintage, but if not, what is the source? Love your photos, recipes, decorating time…and of course, your home!
Shirley
Thanks Shirley. Yes, it’s vintage. 🙂

Sounds so yummy!! I LOVE the pitcher. Where could I get one? 🙂
Thanks! It’s vintage. I was lucky enough to find one at my Goodwill.

It’s YUMMY, Michael. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
You inspired me to get creative w/ beverages, so I when tried it again (for a brunch) I adapted/changed it a little, too, to make a Pineapple-Mango “Mimosa” (I used a Moscato d’Asti & Prosecco (both by Cupcake Vineyards) adding some mint & lavender instead if the basil. Also Yummy.
(And I may get “CRAZY” and try adding orange, lemon, and/or lime to either concoction next time and see what happens!!!)
Thanks again, Michael, for another charming inspiration!
Mimi – that sounds fabulous! It’s all about experimenting and trying new things. I may actually have to give that a try. Yum!

Great summer drink and I am also stoked for the new Civil Wars album. I am hoping that they resolve their differences and keep the albums coming.
I agree! I just downloaded it today and I’m loving it!

Happy Birthday Week!!
I prefer a month-long celebration for mine, but a week is quite respectable. This sangria looks divine and I hope that a few glasses will be included in your celebrations this weekend! When I make a batch of this I will raise a glass to you!
Cheers!
A month long celebration!? Great idea. I think I can handle that. Thanks so much Melinda!

What could I use in place of the St Germain? $35 bottle is a bit too much to splurge on but really want to try this!
Colleen, you’d probably be okay leaving it out all together. You could also try citron vodka or, for a fruitier drink, peach schnapps. Hope that helps!

I am a big fan of the St. Elder liquor (http://www.st-elder.com/home)- a really good product at half the cost! 🙂
Gorgeous photos and this looks so delicious and refreshing! Happy birthday! Have a great weekend!
Thank you so very, very much! 🙂
